The sound of the British Svalbard is hard to capture in a single sentence. Since their formation in 2011, the band has blended influences from black metal, post-rock, d-beat, shoegaze, hardcore, and post-metal with socially engaged lyrics addressing themes such as mental health, rape culture, and corporate greed.
With four albums, appearances at festivals such as Hellfest, Damnation, and Alcatraz, and tours alongside Enslaved, Alcest, and Cult of Luna, Svalbard has earned a unique and highly regarded place within the world of heavy guitar music. Since their debut 'One Day All This Will End' (2015), the group has enjoyed a dedicated fanbase and consistently glowing reviews. Their musical expression of despair and depression is both crushing and healing, and always fiercely urgent.
Their most recent album, 'The Weight of the Mask' (2023, Nuclear Blast), also marks the final chapter of Svalbard. Refusing to repeat themselves, the band has decided to end on a high note. One final track will be released, and Svalbard will embark on a farewell tour through Europe — with Bruges as their last stop in Belgium. A fitting finale for these post-metal heroes.
