The Mechelen-based psychedelic post-metal trio Psychonaut can rightfully be called one of the new major Belgian names in alternative metal. Their compositional mastery, compelling narrative depth, and crushing live performances have placed the group at the forefront of progressive, contemporary heavy guitar music.
After their debut 'Unfold The God Man' (2020) and the transformative, metaphysically complex 'Violate Consensus Reality' (2022), Psychonaut returned at the end of 2025 with their third album 'World Maker', once again released on the progressive metal and post-rock label Pelagic. As always, Psychonaut worked around a tight concept, this time inspired by a schizophrenic combination of familial joy and tragedy. While guitarist/vocalist Stefan De Graef became a father for the first time, both he and singer/bassist Thomas Michiels received the news that their fathers were terminally ill. The music that emerged from this departed from the band’s earlier philosophical and spiritual foundations, instead taking the form of life lessons and a legacy of love: a father singing to his newborn son while a son says goodbye to his own father.
On 'World Maker', the monumental riffs, relentless polyrhythms, and raw vocal intensity of Psychonaut remain stronger than ever, complemented by a broader dynamic spectrum in which the band proudly explores both their more delicate, intimate side and their most aggressive one. Here, Pink Floyd-esque prog meets free-jazz-inspired guitar solos and elements of Eastern music.
Psychonaut presented 'World Maker' for the first time in a sold-out Ancienne Belgique (AB) and will play a select number of club shows in spring 2026 — with Cactus Club being an essential stop.
