Luke Slater is regarded as one of the most influential DJs and producers from the British techno scene, with a career spanning more than three decades at the forefront of the international club world. When techno arrived in the UK in the late ’80s, it was embraced and further developed by a number of key figures. One of the most prominent among them is Slater – UK techno’s enigmatic chameleon – who released forward-thinking club music under an endless list of aliases on the most important techno labels.
Luke Slater began his career in the legendary London club Heaven in 1988 and is known as the first non-German artist to release on the prestigious Berlin-based label Ostgut Ton. Under multiple aliases, including the legendary Planetary Assault Systems, the dub-inspired L.B. Dub Corp, and the ambient-focused 7th Plain, Slater released groundbreaking music on labels such as Peacefrog and NovaMute, as well as on his own Mote-Evolver. He has collaborated with artists including Robert Owens, Chris Liebing, Daniel Avery, Surgeon and Kittin, and has remixed Madonna, Depeche Mode and Burial. With a career approaching 40 years, Luke Slater remains a highly sought-after presence behind the DJ booth at leading techno festivals such as Awakenings and Dekmantel, and in clubs like Fuse and Berghain Panorama Bar.
Whether delivering crushing moments on the dancefloor or exploring the deeper, more experimental realms of electronic music, Luke Slater remains a primal force whose passion for sonic exploration continues to inspire new generations of artists and ravers.
