Abel Ghekiere is a Belgian multi-instrumentalist whose sound emerges from minimalist jazz, traditional folk, and field recordings.
On his debut album, Voor het verdwijnt, en daarna (2021), traces of grief and loss resonated throughout, resulting in a record that sways and comforts. For his second album, In de verte, dit uitzicht (2025), openness, softness, and euphoria formed the foundation. The result is a celebration of beauty, with sudden bursts of euphoria and melancholy hidden within the characteristic soft and fragile sound of Ghekiere’s music: always warm, yet layered with detours that steer clear of sentimentality and easy listening.
Abel Ghekiere has previously performed at festivals such as Gent Jazz, BRDCST, Leffingeleuren, Into The Great Wide Open, and Motel Mozaïque. He has also been invited to support acts including Alabaster dePlume, Black Country New Road, and caroline.
On stage, Abel plays guitar, clarinet, and banjo, backed by Tobias Volckaert (saxophone), Orlan Ghekiere (drums), and Hendrike Scharmann (violin).
