New York singer-songwriter Nate Amos is half of the experimental indie rock duo 'Water From Your Eyes'. As a solo artist, he has been making music under the name This Is Lorelei since 2012. It's an outlet for what he describes as "raw diary fragments" – spontaneously written and recorded without much thought about genres or themes.
For his first full album, 'Box For Buddy, Box For Star' (2024), Amos quit smoking weed after 15 years, which led to a creative rush. The album is, on one hand, a near-classic singer-songwriter exercise, with traditional pop song structures and confessional lyrics, but it also delivers an ironic twist, consciously dropped country clichés, autotune, and bizarre electronic effects. Just like with Water From Your Eyes, Amos manages to blend extremes in an organic way under the name This Is Lorelei. Pitchfork describes the album as "a wonderfully adventurous set of songs, both earnest and appealingly funny."
