Take some time if you want to dive into the full discography of Welsh band The Bug Club - since their formation in 2021, they’ve released ten singles, two albums, two EPs, three releases that no one really knew how to categorize, and even an album under a different name.
Not that anyone’s complaining - everything The Bug Club conjures up on their guitars is ridiculously fun. Their sun-soaked, jangly garage rock blends the best of The Modern Lovers and The Vaselines, with detours into the worlds of B-52’s, The Kinks, AC/DC, The Buzzcocks, and T. Rex.
For a crash course in The Bug Club, look no further than their latest album, 'On the Intricate Inner Workings of the System', released in 2024 on Sub Pop. With a mix of sardonic playfulness and a sound that sways between punk and melodic garage pop, they fire off razor-sharp one-liners in songs like 'Lonsdale Slipons' (about bad footwear), 'We Don’t Care About That' (about maybe just keeping your opinions to yourself), and 'War Movies' (complete with an interesting watchlist for fans of the genre).
BBC 6 Music is on board, as are Stereogum, Paste, and Pitchfork. “The best band in the world today,” say the YouTube comments. Who are we to argue?
