Erol Alkan is a DJ. He is also a producer, artist, radio host, and label head. Some call him a musical wizard, while others regard him as one of the most unique figures in electronic and alternative culture of the past few decades.
Since his TRASH parties in 1997 - where he was one of the first DJs in the UK to seamlessly mix rock with dance - Erol has been pushing boundaries in dance music, constantly advancing genres. He is one of the most influential and highly respected DJs of his generation. The ultimate crate digger and knob twiddler, he effortlessly switches between styles. A man with impeccable taste whose forum was for years the meeting point for adventurous dance fans. The producer of peak-time remixes for artists like Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Justice, Tame Impala, Digitalism, The Chemical Brothers, and Bloc Party. And for nearly three decades, simply one of the best DJs in the world.
"I never plan sets as much", says Erol Alkan, "the only homework I do is making sure I feel I’ve absorbed or made enough music to keep things fresh for myself. DJing for me is 50% the records you bring and 50% the ability to read the room. At best it’s like a symbiotic relationship with the dance floor."
With his legendary 2004 Bugged Out mix, he defined the electro-house sound that would dominate the dance world in the years that followed. Without clinging to the past, Erol evolves with the ever-reinventing world of electronic music. His 6mixes for BBC Radio 6, NTS Radio residency, and his Bugged In mixes show his finger on the pulse of alternative dance.
As the t-shirt says: E.R.O.L. Keeps kids dancing.
