Joshua Idehen was born in the UK, has Nigerian roots and currently lives in Sweden. As a spoken word artist and musician, he contributed to albums by The Comet is Coming and Sons of Kemet. He also forms the spiritual jazz crew Calabashed with jazz poet Alabaster Deplume and works with electronicawizard Daedelus.
In his lyrics, Idehen talks about politics, identity and spirituality, referring to contemporary (pop) culture and not afraid to call things and people by name. Despite the weight of his topics, the approach is positive. Joshua Idehen sees a silver lining and goodness in human beings. But those who profit, abuse or stab knives in the back are not spared.
Backed by spatial beats reminiscent of the work of Jamie XX, Bicep, Overmono and Four Tet, along with elements of gospel, Johsua Idehen links poetry to the dancefloor in his solo work. Part rave, part secular ceremony. A purifying celebration of hope and positivism in turbulent times that leaves no one unmoved.
